About
Southpaw Furniture began creating solid wood pieces in the early 1990’s in a room off the kitchen of a century home. Today, the business continues in a spacious shop overlooking Rice Lake and the hills of Northumberland County, near Gore’s Landing, Ontario, Canada.
Pam Shaw designs and builds individual commissions for her clients who desire more than store offerings. Her work is influenced by the Shaker style: clean, firm lines, stating a simple elegance. Her craft is based on techniques proven over centuries, a traditional approach to joinery methods and tooling skills.

A reflection of that past is evident in each new piece. Choosing the materials, board by board, Pam ensures the best for her clients. No sheet material such as MDF, particleboard, or hardboard is used.
Sanding shop-made Crown Moulding
Drawers are always dove-tailed and have solid, bevelled panels as bottoms. Even the case back-boards are real wood! Quality is seen from all sides.

Clients are often encouraged to visit the shop during their project’s completion and Pam has involved them in choosing a beautiful “figured” board at the mill. Understanding this entire process allows the client to appreciate the time spent, but more importantly, incites pride of ownership.
Living on the Oak Ridges Moraine, Pam realizes the value of natural stewardship. Over 200 native trees have been planted on the property. Also, careful project management ensures minimal waste. What waste is produced finds new use as livestock bedding and wood stove kindling. Wood shavings which are inappropriate for animals are spread on trails and are reclaimed by nature. Nothing goes to the landfill.
